Craig Buhler is Musical Director of the 18-piece “Stardust Big Band” and leader of the combo “Jazz 101.” He serves as Improvisation Coach for Sequim High School Jazz Band, Northwinds Jazz Band, Northwest Big Band Workshop, Jazz in the Olympics Society (JITOS) Youth Band, and Camp Heebie Jeebies. He has just released his 8th self-produced CD and appears on 30 other recordings.
Craig is a charter member of the acclaimed California rock band HONK, which has released 5 CDs, toured nationally with the Beach Boys, Chicago, Santana, etc., and continues to sell out Orange County venues.
Craig’s band “Storyville” released an LP which was played on LA’s KJZZ, appeared with Dizzy Gillespie & The Crusaders. Among Storyville's members were guitarist Will Brady, bassist Jack Prather, drummer John Ferraro (Larry Carlton, Rod Stewart, Promise Keepers, etc.), as well as 4 of the musicians heard on Craig's latest jazz CD “Skykomish." These are pianist Karen Hammack, trumpeter / vibist Brian Atkinson (Disneyland Band, Lou Rawles, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, etc.), drummer Paul Kreibich (Ray Charles, Gene Harris, James Moody, Houston Person, etc.), and trombonist Dan Barrett (Concord All-stars, Howard Alden, Rebecca Kilgore).
Craig's ear training & jazz etude books have helped many students hone advanced improvisational skills.
For 15 years, he has served as church music director and toured/recorded with Vineyard artists Brian Doerksen, Andy Park, and Kevin Prosch.
As a participant in Centrum's Port Townsend Jazz Workshop, Craig has appeared in combos directed by Bobby Shew, Gary Sumalyan, Ingrid Jensen, and Paquito DeRivera.
